The Petzl RIG® Standard is a compact, professional rope access descender designed for experienced rope access technicians and technical rescue professionals who work on ropes every day. Combining excellent descent control, simple operation and a compact design, the new RIG is built for efficient movement, positioning and descent during demanding work at height applications.
Designed specifically for professional rope access, the RIG features an ergonomic control handle that provides excellent grip and precise descent control. Petzl's AUTO-LOCK system allows the user to easily stop and position themselves at a workstation without having to manipulate the handle or tie off the device. When the handle is released, the rope automatically locks in the device.
The RIG's opening side plate and safety gate allow the rope to be installed while the descender remains connected to the harness, making installation easier and helping streamline transitions and the passing of intermediate anchors.
For greater control in different working situations, the RIG provides two descent modes. The rope can run over the side plate for standard descent or through the V-shaped friction channel for increased descent control while also helping reduce rope twisting.
The RIG can be used connected directly to the harness or installed on an anchor, providing versatility across rope access and technical rescue applications. Once the rope is locked, short rope ascents can also be performed without operating the handle by simply pulling rope through the device.
Durability has also been improved for professional use. Reinforced protection around the rope friction zone helps reduce premature wear on the moving side plate, while the optimised cam shape improves rope pinching and helps limit wear on the device.
